The Atlantic City Board of Education broke ground for the new New York Avenue elementary school on Thursday, June 28, during a ceremony on Tennessee and Caspian avenues. The new complex would become the first to be built in the city in 26 years. (Left) - Members of the Board of Education, Mayor James Whelan and three students from the current school put the first shovels into the ground.

 



A new public parking lot (Right) has been constructed on Albany Avenue between Atlantic and Ventnor avenues, the site where the original Atlantic City High School stood. The parking lot features a red-brick wall along Albany Avenue that is designed to resemble ocean waves.

 

 


The $92 million renovation of the historic Boardwalk Hall (Left) will be completed this fall when the Miss America Pageant officially reopens the 72-year old facility. The building, which will host concerns, shows and various sporting events, also will serve
as the home for the East Coast Hockey League's Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies. The team will play 36 home games in the hall from October through March.

 



Valu-Plus, a new store featuring clothes, shoes, houseware and many other items, officially opened its doors for business on Friday, July 20. Located at 1424 Atlantic Avenue inside the J.J. Newbury building, Valu-Plus (Right) is open from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
