Fireworks explode
over Gardner’s Basin
during the June 30th
Independence Day
Celebration
Special events can have a
tremendous impact on the
public perception of a downtown district. Even the most beautifully manicured public space, if underutilized, can be perceived as unsafe. To foster awareness of local businesses and enhance the image of a safer, more familyfriendly business district, in 1999 the Economic Development Division began holding special events throughout the business district. These annual
events include holiday
activities, ribbon-cutting ceremonies,
new business openings
and festivals.
The impact of this program
was immediately visible. Our
events have the active support
and participation of the
Casino Reinvestment Development
Authority, Chamber of
Commerce, Metropolitan
Business and Citizens Association,
members of City
Council, Main Street Atlantic
City and the Mayor of Atlantic
City. Promotional material is
widely distributed, thus sending
a positive message about
the business district into the
wider community. Media
coverage has been positive
and consistent. The merchants
and casinos in the
District consistently support
these events with enthusiasm,
in-kind donations and
funds. Our special events
bring more people into the
district and their presence
serves as a deterrent to
crime.

” Many communities find it rewarding to invest in local markets as a component of economic development…”
On June 30, 2006, the skies
above Atlantic City’s Gardner’s
Basin exploded with color as Atlantic City Special Improvement District and
Main Street Atlantic City presented
the 3rd Annual Independence
Day Fireworks Celebration.
This event, sponsored by Borgata
Hotel Casino and Spa,
Harrah’s Atlantic City, Bally’s
Atlantic City, Showboat – The
Mardi Gras Casino, Atlantic
City Convention and Visitors’
Authority, Casino Reinvestment
Development Authority,
AtlantiCare, Bella Condos, Los
Amigos Mexican Restaurant
& Bar, AC Check Cashing,
Atlantic City Outlets – The
Walk, Art of Flowers, Atlantic
City Arts Commission, Boardwalk
Bank, CB Architects,
Chris Ferry Insurance Agency,
and Sport Hyundai-Dodge,
was attended by thousands.
Many sponsors reported new
customers coming into their
businesses in the hours and
days after the event, thanking
them for providing a terrific
fireworks display.
ACSID thanks all who contributed
to the success of the
event, and we look forward to
presenting an even bigger
and better display in 2007.

From July through September,
ACSID brings live music, Jersey
Fresh produce, and local
crafts to Center City Park.
The Atlantic City Farmers
Market in Center City Park
(Atlantic Avenue at North
Carolina) is held every Thursday
and Saturday in season.
Featuring several produce,
flower and craft vendors,
the open air market is
further enhanced by the addition
of a live music component,
Thursdays in the Park, each
Thursday from 12pm-2pm.
“ The vitality of small- and medium-
sized farms across New
Jersey is good for local economies,
good for consumers, and
good for our State’s citizens,”
said Donald A. Guardian, Executive
Director of Atlantic City Special
Improvement D i s -
trict. “Many communities find
it rewarding to invest in local
markets as a component of
economic development and
are realizing benefits from the
resulting tourism.”
Both events are sponsored by
the merchants and casinos of
the Special Improvement
District, Main Street Atlantic
City, the City of Atlantic City
and the CRDA.
