2004 Budget Meeting Notice

The black and white photographs tell the story of a wonderful era, long since past, but not forgotten. Men, women and children strolling along the world famous wooden thoroughfare, the Atlantic City Boardwalk, decked out only in their Sunday best. Suits, top hats, ties, bow ties, dresses, bonnets and highly-shined shoes ruled the day and the Boardwalk. Shopping and window browsing at the many unique stores was a treat for the senses.

An attempt is now being made to re-establish the Boardwalk as the premier location to shop, stroll, browse and dine in Atlantic City. Several new projects, such as Siganos Plaza at 1700 Boardwalk and The Marketplace at Tropicana Casino Resort, have recently taken the lead role in this revitalization effort.

Siganos Boardwalk Properties Inc. has invested more than $3 million into the renovation of a block of 15 stores between Indiana Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. An eclectic mix of restaurants/eateries and shops offer tourists and residents a unique shopping experience.

The OPA Bar and Grille, located in the two-story former RCA showroom building, is the flagship establishment featuring a fun environment with a bar and restaurant separated by fish tanks, a menu with burgers, salads, soups and chicken fingers, as well as Boardwalk bar seating for passers-by.

Other restaurants/eateries include: China One, featuring Chinese and Japanese foods; Original Philly Steaks, bringing the taste of Philly-style cheesesteaks to Atlantic City; Double Rainbow Ice Cream and Coffee Cafe, featuring the award winning Double Rainbow Gourmet Ice Cream, 40 flavors of premium ice creams, sorbets, sherberts, low fat, no sugar ice creams and nonfat yogurts, as well as specialty coffees, bagels, muffins, pastries and pretzels; and Lo Presti Pizza, a family-run business and original tenant of the block.
