Twelve blocks down
the Boardwalk, the Tropicana Casino Resort recently completed a $4
million Boardwalk facade renovation (above left). Opened to the public
in April 2003, the
showcase piece of this project is the The Marketplace at the Boardwalk
(below right), a 21,000-
square-foot dining, retail and entertainment venue.
The
Marketplace features Corky's, the only Southern barbeque restaurant in
the city; Adam Good Deli, a mom and pop deli offering homemade soups,
salads and fresh made-to-order sandwiches; Firewaters, complete with 101
different varieties of tap beer, a martini bar and live entertainment;
Starbucks, featuring its rich roasted coffees, handcrafted espressos and
delicious pastries; Boardwalk Favorites, with its famous curly fries,
Johnson's popcorn, cotton candy, corn dogs and pizza; and James Salt Water
Taffy, the local favorite now has an interactive location that allows
visitors a chance to see how candy is made.
The Latin-themed new
facade has been modeled after the Tropicana's expansion project, The Quarter,
currently under construction and due to be completed by mid-2004. A new,
state of-the-art, $8 million slot area has been added and consists of
more than 14,000 square feet of gaming space.
