Resorts opened its new Rendezvous hotel tower on July 2 with a spectacular ribbon-cutting and show. The Gordon Group is in full swing with The Pier at Caesars for a summer 2005 opening, and The Quarter at Tropicana is changing the look of Pacific Avenue with its exciting line of Latin restaurants, clubs and shops. All in all, more activities for visitors and tourists, more tax ratables and additional year-round employment. With Curtis Bashaw's arrival at the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA), we anticipate a new vision for that agency, as well as commitment to return our Boardwalk to its former glory, with the CRDA articulating the vernacular. In addition, Mr. Bashaw is currently convening a series of seminars in Asbury Park, Wildwood and Atlantic City to promote the Jersey Shore. The new New York Avenue school recently opened and the new Sovereign Avenue school is scheduled to open its doors this fall. The beach replenishment extended the width of our beaches from less than 50 feet to more than 300. Four beach bars are open for the summer season and the Rainforest Cafe and Evo's have recently opened at Trump Plaza on the Boardwalk. We hope that this will be a banner year for all of our businesses and residents. Here at the Special Improvement District, you will see the long-awaited facade program on the north side of Atlantic Avenue between Mississippi and Georgia avenues commence with funding by the Trump organization through CRDA credits. Also, the north side of Atlantic Avenue between Boston and Sovereign avenues will commence with funding by the Caesars organization through CRDA credits. In addition, a number of other projects are either completed, under construction or nearing completion through the ACSID facade program, such as: Chelsea Cafe, Sally's Pizza and the Ocean Grill Flea Market on the Boardwalk; and Sabatini's Restaurant, Mama Mott's, Gormley Funeral Home, Fischer Flowers, and Dover Super Market. Our Landscaping Division has completely rebuilt South Carolina Avenue between the Boardwalk and Pacific Avenue complete with new sidewalks, planters, landscaping and lighting through a grant from the CRDA and direct contributions from Resorts. The boulevards - New Hampshire, Delaware, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Albany avenues, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and the expressway corridor - are all blooming with the bright colors of summer, as are McClinton, Fishermen's, Center City, Brighton and Delaware Avenue parks. Our cleaning, power washing, lot cutting, Boardwalk Ambassadors and Bike Patrol are all out in full force and we are teaming up with the CRDA and Main Street Atlantic City to present the Jazz in the Park free concerts/luncheon and Farmers Market. Main Street recently announced major funding that is now available for the rehabilitation of apartments/condominiums above first floor commercial locations. It is an exciting time to be in Atlantic City! It is time to steam the crabs, clams and Jersey corn, and look for our Jersey tomatoes and blueberries. Take some time to smell the roses and find some time to enjoy the lazy, hazy days of summer 2004. |
